Music Technology is a very important subject in highschool and college classroom.  I find that hands-on experience is the best teaching tool when it come to technology.  For my classroom I would like for my students to just jump in to the technology of Garage Band and ProTools recording software.  These technologies are standard for all musicians to know.  They are easy to work with and easy to learn.

I would like for my students to use a combination of traditional classical music and popular music to get a full understanding of what these programs can do.  Recording and editing audio is a big portion of what these programs do, so I think it is imperative that the students spend a lot of time working on these two skills.  Editing audio can be a very fun and enjoy able process to creating music.  After the students learn the basics of editing through my personal instruction and YouTube clips they will be given audion to edit in the most creative way possible.  This allows the students to test out what they have learned and further grasp the concept of editing audio.  Next, they will edit some more audio but with some guidelines.  The guidelines are: every student must edit the new piece of music in a way the compliments another style of music, such as Rock, Pop, R&B, etc.  They can also add any recorded audio track and MIDI instrument to complete their idea.  This will create interest in the project at hand and allow the students to be creative in their approach to the music.

The student judged by their concrete explaination of their project and not by the creativity of their music.

Interactive #5

I chose to interview an Strings music teacher for Elizabeth High School.  Elizabeth like many other schools are constantly intergrating new technology into the classroom.  And the music classrooms are not absent to the phenomenon.
The strings at Elizabeth High School was very aware of this change in adding technology to the classroom but had no idea of what it was called.  The NETS-T(National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers) was an unknown name until mentioned it.  The teacher was familiar with the concept and the idea of adding technology to the music classroom is beginning to shape the way he/she teaches.  These new technologies, such as iPads, iMac computers, Photography Studios, and SmartBoards, are shaping the way they teach.
The teacher uses the iPad and iMac computers to teach the students the basics on how to use Garage Band.  They have done many projects with recording the class rehearsals and recording the classess performances.  The SmartBoard is used in his/her classroom to connect to other classrooms around the world and to access YouTube with it's unlimited videos at a click.  The only problem with the technology is that the students sometimes feel that they don't need to know how to play an instrument to make music is a big mistake for students to believe.  Everything in music production is build off of the fundamentals of music and without the fundamentals the student can only go but so far until they hit a wall.

Interactivity #2

"The idea of being able hear music without having live instruments or musicians in your presence is a phenomenal feat for the education of music because you can now experience and study music from all around without meeting the people who created it."

Sulaiman Ismail - Interactivity #1

I think that the cellular phone is one of the greatest technological advances in the world, because it has been combined with some other technologies that revolutionized the way we communicate.  Such as the World Wide Web, the Personal Labtop Computer or Portable Computer, and the invention of Electronic Mail.

Email allows us to transfer important information and documents almost instantly.  This has revolutionized the way do business around the world.  I can send MP3's of music though email.  This has been beneficial for my business because I can collaborate on music with artist from around the world without having to see them face to face.  The invention of email wouldn't be possible without the internet.  The internet has made world wide communication possible.  We can learn anything on the internet and communicate with anyone around the world.  I have a Youtube video that was viewed by someone in Brazil which shows that world communication is limitless.  The internet wouldn't be possible without the computer.  Computer originally started out the size of an office but now we have portable or personal computers that can do a lot more than the original computer.  And they have revolutionized the way the common person operates.  No one goes to the library anymore to find information.  It's all on the computer.

I cellular phone of today is the combination of these three forms of communication and more.  With today's cell phone you can call anyone in the world, Surf the web, Download the same information that you would on a computer, email anyone in the world, Type homework assignments, and post blogs such as this while walking to the grocery store.  The cell phone is the new portable computer.  Sooner or later, classroom lectures will be given online from everyone's phone.  Wow, the world is changing fast.
